Karl Lagerfeld

Hi this gives a brief summary of the diet its an article that appeared in the Sunday Times (UK) – the book is available form Amazon.com.fr france – but in French only!
The 3-D diet
WHO DOES IT SUIT? lastminute.com-ers: 800
calories is a seriously quick-fix regimen
What is it? A diet for the jet set, who wouldn’t mind
hopping on a plane for a consultation with the French
weight-loss guru Dr Jean-Claude Houdret. The
designer Karl Lagerfeld followed it to morph himself
from kimono-clad sumo to svelte clotheshorse. The
diet consists of three levels: an unbelievably strict
quick-fixer supplying just 800-900 calories a day, to
be followed for 15 days to three weeks, maximum; a
1,000- to 1,200- calorie plan for slightly less rapid
results; and a third 1,200- to 1,600-calorie plan for
life.
What’s the claim? Lagerfeld lost 6st 6lbs and now
weighs just 9st 4lbs. The implication is that if the ex-
Demis Roussos of the fashion world can do it, you
can, too. How does it work? Strict calorie control, but
Houdret believes that the most efficient weight loss
occurs when we eat 1.2g of protein per 1kg of our
body weight (1.5g per 1kg for men). This, he says,
maintains muscle and keeps metabolism up while
burning fat. In practice, it means having 50g-60g of
protein- rich foods per meal, and drinking his protein
shakes (see below, for where to buy). The book
comes with a wall chart that depicts “red
foods” (banned), “amber foods” (go steady) and
“green foods” (allowed).
Any exercise? Houdret says it’s unreasonable to
expect a person on a diet to exercise because it risks
making you hungry, but Lagerfeld uses his own gym
every other day.
Celebrity followers: Karl Lagerfeld.
What’s the catch phrase? “This is one game that
you win by losing.”
Typical menu: level one, breakfast: two proteinsachet
drinks; lunch: same again, plus 200g of
“green” vegetables; ditto for supper. Level two,
breakfast: fat-free yoghurt and a protein shake stirred
into a cappuccino; lunch: two protein shakes and
200g of “green” vegetables; dinner: veggie soup,
plus chicken with olives and courgettes ŕ la
provençale; jellied fruit.
